PPF Calculator
PPF compounds annually on the balance. Enter your yearly contribution, the term, and the current rate — which the government resets every quarter, so it is a number you should check rather than one this page should remember.
What you enter
- Yearly deposit — The statutory ceiling is ₹1,50,000 per financial year.
- PPF interest rate — Reset quarterly by the Ministry of Finance. Check the current notification.
- Years — A PPF account runs 15 years, extendable in blocks of 5.
What it tells you
- Maturity value
- Interest earned
- Total deposited
How this is worked out
Each year the deposit is added and the whole balance grows by the annual rate.
What it cannot know
- The rate is not fixed for the life of the account — it is notified quarterly, so a single rate across fifteen years is a simplification.
- This does not model the ₹1,50,000 statutory cap, partial withdrawals, loans against the balance, or the extension rules.
Questions
Is PPF tax-free?
PPF is in the EEE category: contributions qualify under s.80C, the interest is exempt, and the maturity amount is exempt. This calculator shows the gross balance, which for PPF is also the net.
